West Virginia State FOP Lodge
The Fraternal Order of Police had its first lodge installed in West Virginia on February 21, 1926. Wheeling Lodge #38 was installed by Grand Secretary William Bailey. On October 10, 1932, Huntington (Goldstar) Lodge #65, was installed by District Organizer and First President of the National FOP, William Larkin. The most significant lodge was when Friendly City Lodge #39 was installed in 1934 with Assistant Chief Henry B. Squires being named the President of the local lodge. It was Brother Squires that started the State Lodge in 1935 after he sold the Order to the Charleston Police Department who then installed Capital City #74 in December of 1934. Within 18 months, the FOP blanketed the State of West Virginia. The first convention of the West Virginia State FOP was held on June 23, 1935 in Fairmont, WV with Henry Squires being named President for his second term. President Squires immediately set his tasks to form the following lodges with the State of West Virginia:
